Description
The Swan is a house that was later converted into a public house. It dates from the late 16th century and was altered in the 20th century. The building has a timber frame that is plastered and features a steeply pitched pantiled roof. It has a three-cell lobby entry plan and is one storey high with an attic. The entrance is located in a closed brick porch with a slate hood, positioned to the left of centre. Flanking the entrance are 20th-century three-light glazing bar casements, and to the right, there is a two-light gabled dormer. A ridge stack is situated behind the entrance with a rebuilt capping, and there is an added stack on the right gable end. The left end has a brick outshut addition.
Inside, the ground floor features a quadruple roll moulded axial binding beam in the hall and a stop-chamfered cross axial bearer to the left, which leads to the parlour end. There is an 18th-century panelled screen at the lower end of the hall. On the first floor, a base cruck truss is located between the hall bays, with the tenon of the brace to the raised tie beam still in place. The roof structure includes butt purlins and collars to the principal rafters.
