Description

BARKING DARMSDEN TM 05 SE

2/31 Dairy/bakehouse 5 metres - north of Darmsden Hall

GV II

Dairy/bakehouse, late C17 or early C18. 2 cells, 2 storeys. Timber-framed and plastered with C18 and C19 cable-pattern pargetting. Plaintiled roof with an end chimney of red brick. C19 casements. The bakehouse has a fine ceiling of reused early C16 oak members, the joists roll-moulded and the bridging joist with multiple roll mouldings. Open fireplace with plain lintel. The framing is substantial for the date, but many memebers are probably reused. An outshut of brick and plaintile was added to the north side in C19.
