Description
The dairy and bakehouse, located 5 metres north of Darmsden Hall, dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It consists of two cells and is two storeys high. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring 18th and 19th century cable-pattern pargetting. It has a plaintiled roof with a red brick chimney at one end. The windows are 19th century casements. Inside the bakehouse, there is a notable ceiling made of reused early 16th century oak members, with roll-moulded joists and a bridging joist that has multiple roll mouldings. There is also an open fireplace with a plain lintel. While the framing is substantial for its period, many of the members are likely reused. A brick and plaintile outshut was added to the north side in the 19th century.
