Description

Watering Farmhouse is a former farmhouse built in two stages. The original core dates to the 16th century, comprising a single-storey house with attics. An additional two-cell parlour block, two storeys high with attics, was added in the early or mid 17th century to the right. The house is timber-framed and plastered, with a plaintiled roof and an axial chimney built of red brick. A gabled dormer window was added in the 20th century. Most windows are small-pane casements from the mid 20th century; however, three 17th-century mullioned windows have been restored and fitted with glazing. A 20th-century gabled porch shelters a boarded entrance door. The parlour block retains good close-studding, and the main beams are ovolo-moulded and channelled. Joists are fully exposed, some flat and some laid on edge. The earlier 16th-century range was likely originally three cells and later converted into a service wing to the left of the lobby, serving as an entrance from the 17th century onward. The farmhouse was restored from dereliction around 1970, resulting in the loss of considerable original fabric, particularly in the earlier wing.
