Description

Darmsden Hall is a farmhouse dating back to around 1830, with a rear wing from around 1600. The main, garden-facing elevation has two storeys and five windows. It is timber-framed with plastered walls. The roof is hipped and covered in slate, with several brick chimneys running along the ridge. The windows are small-pane sashes. On the ground floor, a large tripartite window is positioned to the right, and a splayed, flat-roofed bay window is located to the left, both with sash windows. The front door is a six-panelled design, with smaller panels in the centre and glazed upper panels; it has panelled reveals. A portico porch with a flat, dentilled entablature supported by Tuscan columns provides cover, and is accessed by stone steps with wrought iron handrails. The rear wing, dating from around 1600, has exposed close-studding and shows signs of having originally featured unglazed mullioned windows. A large axial chimney includes a blocked open fireplace with a wide timber lintel.
