Description
Clay Hall is a farmhouse dating from the mid 16th century, featuring a three-cell cross-passage entrance plan. The building has one storey and attics, constructed from timber framing and pebble-dash, with a pantiled roof that was formerly thatched. It includes a red brick axial chimney, 19th-century small-pane casements, and a gabled wooden entrance porch. The house has seen little alteration aside from the removal of the open truss over the hall chamber. Inside, there are very heavy unchamfered floor joists and other exposed framing. The hall and former parlour, which has been converted into a kitchen/bakehouse by the 19th century, feature back-to-back open fireplaces.
