Description

Woolmers is a house located on East End Road in Stonham Aspal, dating from the early 17th century with an extension added around 1700. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring a three-cell cross-passage entrance plan. It is constructed from timber framing and plaster, adorned with cable-pattern pargetting. The roof is thatched and includes a central 17th-century chimney made of red brick, along with an 18th-century internal end chimney on the left side.

The house has various 19th and 20th-century small-pane casement windows, and several mullioned windows have been uncovered and glazed, primarily in diamond shape, with some featuring ovolo moulding. A notable feature is the two-storey entrance porch, which, while early 17th century, is not original. This porch has a gabled thatched roof and includes a projecting four-light ovolo-moulded mullioned window above the entrance. The ground storey side walls of the porch are open and supported by turned balusters. Inside, there is a 20th-century boarded inner door, and the framing is fully exposed, showcasing a wind-braced clasped-purlin roof. The interior also features two plastered arched chamber fireplaces and two sets of original newel stairs, one located at the service end and the other adjacent to the hall/parlour chimney.
