Description

The barn, located 80 meters north-west of Castle Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century. It features five bays and has an aisle on the north side. In the 19th century, the barn was extended eastwards by three bays, which have a lower profile than the original structure. The barn is timber-framed with wattle-and-daub infill and has been weatherboarded since the 19th century. It has a corrugated iron roof, which was previously thatched. There is a set of four incomplete boarded barn doors. The heavy wall framing includes long primary braces, and short struts rise from the arcade posts to support a purlin beneath the aisle rafters, with no additional bracing in the aisle. The roof features clasped purlins. Castle Farmhouse itself is not a listed building.
