Description
The Grange is a former rectory built in the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring a timber-framed and plastered structure. The main range has a slated roof, while the rear range is covered with plain tiles, including concrete plain tiles on the west slope. There is an axial chimney made of early 17th century red brick, with its upper shaft rebuilt in the 19th or 20th century, and another axial chimney at the rear made of 18th or 19th century red brick. The windows are mainly 20th century casements, with some mid-19th century sashes that have large panes. The entrance features a 20th century glazed door within a slated lean-to porch. Originally, the 17th century house faced east towards the church, but its main range was truncated and rebuilt as a service wing in the 18th century. At the south end, towards the road, there is a parlour cross-wing that was extended eastwards in the mid-20th century. Inside, there is a fragment of a 17th century staircase balustrade, with the lower section being a 20th century reconstruction. The framing of the building is almost entirely concealed.
