Description
Moat Farmhouse is a farmhouse comprising an early 17th-century two-cell rear range and an early 19th-century front range, forming a double-pile plan. The earlier range is of timber frame and plaster under a pantiled roof, while the 19th-century range is of red brick with glazed black pantiles to the front roof slope. It has a mutule eaves cornice and parapet gables. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with an attic to the earlier range, and features three slightly inset sash windows with glazing bars, each with a flat arch of white brick. The central doorway has mid-20th century glazed doors and a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars, set within a white brick arch with a stone key. Gable stacks are present. The rear range has an internal stack with a recessed oblong panel. The interior has been modernised, incorporating a mid-20th century staircase. Within the older part of the house, the first-floor framing is exposed, displaying cranked reverse-curved braces and on-edge chamfered joists. One ground floor bridging beam is ovolo-moulded, and the other bears a painted inscription dated 1765. The roof has not been examined.
