Description
The Firs is a house with an 18th century or earlier core that underwent significant alterations in the mid to late 19th century. It features a double-pile plan and is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior. The front roof slope is covered with diagonally laid slates, while the rest of the roof is pantiled, boasting a large overhang at the gable ends. The building has three large tripartite casement windows on the ground floor, each with wooden hoodmoulds above. The entrance is through a mid-19th century plastered gabled porch that contains a six-panelled door with a three-centre arched head. A white brick stack with three square shafts set diamondwise is present, and there is a canted two-storey bay on the left gable end. The front range displays many re-used timbers, featuring straight primary braces. The two ground floor rooms have small on-edge joists, along with some re-used joists set flat. The building is included for its group value.
