Description
No. 16 on Low Street is a house that was converted into two cottages. It dates from the early 18th century, with some reconstruction occurring in the mid-20th century. The building is timber framed and plastered, topped with a pantiled roof. It has two storeys and an attic in the front range, featuring two windows with small-paned casements from the 19th century. To the left is a 19th-century four-panel door, while to the right is a doorway with a fluted architrave, an old six-panel raised and fielded door, and a three-light rectangular fanlight. There is a cellar entrance facing the road. An internal stack is located at the junction of the front and rear sections. The front range may have originally extended further north, as it now consists of just a single ground floor room. The ground floor has thin studding with straight primary braces, much of which was rebuilt in the mid-20th century. Small square joists are present throughout the building. The roof over the front range features two rows of stepped butt purlins and a ridge piece, all made of oak, along with newel stairs.
