Description
No 5 on Main Road is a mid-18th century cottage with a two-cell end chimney plan. The building is one storey with attics and is constructed from timber framing and plaster. It features a hipped thatched roof, with one original gabled and thatched dormer that has early 19th century casements. The original end chimney is made of red brick. There are two early 19th century small-pane casements, and the entrance door is also from the early 19th century, made of boarded wood. A 20th century open porch supported by posts has a corrugated iron roof. Inside, there is an oak bridging beam with a narrow chamfer, while the other framing is concealed but likely unaltered. This cottage is noted as a good example of the two-cell end-chimney plan form that was commonly used in rural areas throughout the 18th century.
