Description
This is a barn located 10 metres west of Poplar Farmhouse in Offton, dating from the early to mid 16th century, with alterations made around 1800. The barn has three bays and is constructed from timber framing, which is weather-boarded. It features a corrugated iron roof that is hipped at the right-hand end. The structure includes heavy close-studwork and long arch wind-braces on the outer face. The roof is a coupled-rafter type; however, most of the original collars were removed, and a clasped-purlin system was inserted in the 17th century or later. A weather-boarded timber-framed midstrey was added to the centre bay, along with other lean-to additions, in the late 18th or early 19th century. The barn was likely built during the first phase of Poplar Farmhouse.
