Description

Three houses, likely built as one dwelling in the late 16th or early 17th century, are located on Old Street in Haughley. The building originally had a three-cell plan. It is two storeys and has attics. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, with some restored 18th-century herringbone pargeting from the 20th century. The roof is thatched, featuring an axial chimney with a rebuilt 19th-century shaft of red brick, and another 19th-century internal end chimney to the left. There are two 18th-century three-light casement windows at the first storey of numbers 53 and 55; most other windows have been replaced with late 20th-century casements. Three 19th-century entrance doorways are present, each with simple pediments. Number 53 has a boarded 19th-century door, number 51 a 20th-century framed and boarded door, and number 55 a half-glazed panelled door. Number 55 has a single-window 19th-century extension to the right, with a lower-pitched pantiled roof. Number 53 retains unchamfered ceiling joists of a late 16th-century style. The remaining interiors have not been examined.
