Description
Nos. 44 (part), 46, and 48 on Old Street are two houses and part of a third, built in the 17th century or earlier as one three-cell house. The buildings are two storeys tall, with a timber-framed and plastered structure. They feature a Roman pantiled roof that was once thatched. There is a central chimney made of 19th century gault brick with red brick quoins, and an external 17th century chimney to the left, which has a plastered base and a sawtooth shaft made of buff bricks. This chimney was originally internal, indicating that the house may have extended further to the left. The windows are mid-20th century casements. No. 46 has a 19th century four-panelled door, while No. 48 features a framed and boarded stable-type door. The higher section of No. 44 and its single-storey extension to the right are not of special interest. The interior has not been examined.
