Description

Kiln Farmhouse is a late 16th and early 17th century timber-framed farmhouse located in Redlingfield. The house has a roughcast-rendered exterior and a concrete pantile roof. Originally a three-cell plan, it now has a mid-20th century flat-roofed addition to the front, set forward and containing large windows and two entrance doors. The first floor has C19 casement windows. There is an internal stack with a rendered shaft and an external stack against the right gable end. The first floor rooms retain complete plain studding, with bracing on the outside face of the studs, and the main posts are heavily jowled. The rear wall contains two blocked windows with diamond mullions. Both the hall and parlour feature axial bridging beams and chamfered joists with ogee stops, while the service end has plain joists. The section of the original front wall where the mid-20th century addition joins has been removed. A newel staircase is present, although the flight leading to the former attic has been removed.
