Description
The former Nat West Bank, originally listed as the National Westminster Bank, is a building from the mid-19th century located on the east side of Market Place in Stowmarket. It is constructed of brick with an ashlar front, featuring a ground floor that was altered around 1930. The building has a slate roof and stands two storeys high, divided into three bays.
On the ground floor, there are three four-light cross casements, with the northernmost window adapted as an entrance. Between the windows, there are rusticated stone blocks adorned with shields that bear the monogram of the National Provincial Bank. The first floor has three 20th-century French windows that open onto wrought-iron balconies, which are separated by Ionic pilasters that rise to a moulded parapet. The roof is hipped and topped with a cupola.
Inside, the former bank features an open-plan layout that reflects late 20th-century design.
