Description
No. 20 Castle Street is a house that dates back to the early 18th century and was converted into a house and shop in the 19th century. It features a plastered and whitewashed timber frame with a pantiled roof. The building has one storey and a dormer attic. On the left side, there is an early 20th-century double shop front with multi-paned display windows. To the right, there is a half-glazed domestic door that has been blocked. The gabled roof includes one flat-topped dormer fitted with a 20th-century casement window, and the stack has been removed. At the rear, there is a two-storey wing.
Inside, the ground floor consists of a retail area that was opened up into one space in the late 20th century, and the staircase has been removed. The rear wing features chamfered bridging beams with tongue stops, and there is a wide chamfered bressumer over the fireplace. Additionally, there is a single-storey mid-20th-century extension at the rear.
