Description

This is probably two early 18th century houses, later altered in the 19th and 20th centuries and converted into a single shop. The building is timber-framed with rendered and colourwashed elevations, and has roofs of black-glazed pantiles. The north part is three storeys high and presents a gable end to the street, with a late 20th-century shop display window. Above this window is a late 19th-century canopy box supported by consoles. Above are two-light casement windows on each floor, each with a floating hood. The roof is gabled, with a hip to the rear. The south part is two storeys high and has a two-window front. A central four-panelled door has glazed upper panels. There are two 2/2 horned sash windows on the ground floor, and two 2/2 horned sashes to the first floor. The roof is gabled and includes a ridge stack shared with the neighbouring property. Internally, evidence suggests the north shop was formerly a butcher’s. The internal frame consists of thin timbers with jowled principal posts. The roof is late 18th century, though largely replaced in the 20th century.
