Description
Tyrells is a house dating from the 15th century, located on Woolpit Green Hill. It features a cross-wing and was originally built as one dwelling along with the adjacent houses to the left, including The Cottage. The building has two storeys and is constructed with exposed timber framing and plaster infill panels, with the first floor extending out at the front. The ground floor walls are underbuilt in painted brick from the 20th century. On the first storey, there is an 18th or 19th-century casement window with leaded lights, while the ground storey has a 20th-century cross-casement window, also with leaded lights. The upper storey displays exposed joist-ends and close-studded walling, along with a moulded and embattled tiebeam. The roof is covered with plaintiles, and the original pierced and cusped bargeboards were in place until around 1980. Inside, the first floor features heavy unchamfered joists and a plain crownpost roof, which includes a cambered tiebeam with heavy arch braces. The crownpost at the open truss, which has two-way braces, may not be original.
