Description
The barn, located 50 meters north-west of Tostock Old Hall, dates from the late 16th century and features six bays. It is constructed with a timber frame and is weatherboarded, topped with a plaintiled roof. The barn has boarded doors at the second bay from the west, a pair of stable doors at the fourth bay, and an open doorway at the fifth bay. The framing is of high quality for its period, showcasing close-studding with long tension braces, and includes significant wattle and daub infill. Inside, there are open trusses with long twice-strutted arch-braces and queen-struts supporting the principal rafters. The roof is a two-tier butt-purlin design with windbracing on both tiers. Additionally, there is a plank-and-muntin partition beneath the central truss.
