Description

This is a former farmhouse dating from the 16th century, built in two distinct phases. It has a three-cell lobby-entrance plan, with a service range projecting slightly to the left. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, with a concrete pantiled roof, which was originally plaintiled. A prominent axial chimney, built of red brick, dates to the late 16th or early 17th century. The front features a set of four 18th-century casement windows with transoms. A mid-20th century half-glazed panelled door is set within a contemporary gabled open porch supported by posts.

The main range of the house retains late 16th-century features, including some exposed close studding, plain chamfered main timbers, and a wide, lintelled open fireplace in the hall. The service cell to the left is from the early 16th century, and may represent the original house, in part or whole. It contains good tension-braced studding, substantial unchamfered floor joists, and a beam with brattishing, which might have been introduced from another location. There is evidence suggesting a possible underbuilt long-wall jetty on the west side. The property has undergone significant remodelling, including a new roof, and the first storey was used as a granary in the 18th and 19th centuries.
