Description

This is a barn located immediately west of Tawny's, dating from the late 16th century. It has a timber frame and is covered with tarred weatherboarding, while the roof is clad in corrugated asbestos. The barn consists of four bays, with a cart entry in the second bay from the north, featuring a gabled porch to the east and boarded cart doors to the west. The oak studding is mostly intact, with a middle rail all around and curved wall braces on the outside. One tie beam still has its original curved braces attached to the wallplates. The southernmost bay has been partitioned off for stabling, with the original floor and most of the studded partition still in place, along with evidence of diamond-mullioned windows on both floors. The other two bays have 19th-century floors. The roof includes one row of wind-braced clasped purlins, although most of the rafters are missing. There is a brick threshing floor. The barn is included for its group value.
