Description
Numbers 2 and 3, Church Cottages, were originally one house but are now two separate cottages. This building dates back to the 16th century and features a two-cell end-chimney range with later 17th and 18th-century additions. It is constructed with a timber frame and has a pebbledash render, topped with a pantiled roof. The cottages are one and a half storeys tall and have small-paned metal-framed casement windows from the 20th century, along with one gabled dormer and three boarded doors. Inside, there are two internal stacks, with the older stack located to the right and featuring a rendered shaft. The 16th-century part of the building includes a hall and service cells, where the hall displays chamfered cross-beams and a bridging beam with solid braces to the wallposts, although one brace is missing. The left side of the hall, found in No. 3, has heavy plain joists, while the adjacent service cell, also in No. 3, has exposed plain joists. The rest of the structure is largely hidden from view. The addition to the right of the main stack is likely from the 17th century, while the addition to the left dates from the 18th century.
