GREAT FINBOROUGH BOROUGH LANE Barn 100 metres west of Butterfly Farmhouse

GV II

Barn. Late C16 with late C18/early C19 alterations. Timber-framed and weatherboarded on a renewed brick plinth and corrugated steel roof. 3 bays. Pair of double doors with timber-framed lean-to added opposite late C18/early C19. INTERIOR. Close-studded framing with some external trenched braces. Jowled posts with cranked braces to tie beams. Roof of 3 bays with principal rafters, clasped side purlin and collars and evidence of former wind braces to the trusses. Apex not visible. West gable rebuilt early C19. This barn is a remnant of the former farm complex of the nearby Butterfly Farmhouse (qv), with which it is contemporary and forms a group.
