Description
The barn, located 100 metres west of Butterfly Farmhouse, dates from the late 16th century and has undergone alterations in the late 18th to early 19th centuries. It is constructed with a timber frame and is weatherboarded, resting on a renewed brick plinth and topped with a corrugated steel roof. The barn consists of three bays and features a pair of double doors, with a timber-framed lean-to added on the opposite side during the late 18th to early 19th century.
Inside, the barn has close-studded framing with some external trenched braces. It includes jowled posts with cranked braces supporting the tie beams. The roof structure features three bays with principal rafters, clasped side purlins, and collars, along with evidence of former wind braces in the trusses. The apex of the roof is not visible. The west gable was rebuilt in the early 19th century. This barn is a remnant of the former farm complex associated with the nearby Butterfly Farmhouse, with which it shares a contemporary history and forms a group.
