2/121 West End Farmhouse - GV II

Farmhouse, early C16 core with major alterations, principally of early C19. 3-cell plan; an original but concealed cross-wing is at right-hand end. Two storeys, and one storey with attics. Timber-framed, encased in C19 and mid C20 gault brick. Roof partly plaintiled; the low-pitched C19 roof is slated, and the entire steep rear slope concrete tiled. 2 axial chimneys of red brick, the shaft of one was rebuilt C20 in gault brick, the other in red brick. Early C19 small-pane sashes. C19 entrance door with 6 panels; Doric portico porch with flat entablature on columns. An early C16 wing to right has heavy, mainly concealed framing, unchamfered floor joists and clasped purlin roof; inserted C17 chimney. Quite complete C16 service cell to left, with massive floor joists and tension-braced studding. Included despite C19 and C20 alterations for good C16 work. Associated with medieval moat, partially infilled.
