Description
Grange Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th, early 19th, and early 20th centuries. The original 16th-century structure has a three-cell cross-passage entrance plan and stands two storeys high with attics. It is timber-framed and was encased in red brick in the early 19th century, which is now painted on the north side. The roofs are slated, with the south face covered in plain tiles. The internal and end chimneys are made of red brick. The early 19th-century windows feature small-pane sashes, although some have been replaced in the early 20th century with oak casements that have leaded lights. There is an early 20th-century flat-roofed entrance porch with a boarded door. The 16th-century construction displays good close-studwork and arch-bracing, along with a wind-braced clasped-purlin roof. An early 18th-century service wing, made of red brick and now mostly plastered, was added to the north side. The parlour was extended to the left in the early 19th century, and a single-storey addition was made to the service wing.
