Description

Burts Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid 17th century, with a core that originates from the mid 16th century. It has two storeys and attics, featuring a three-cell cross-entry plan that includes a hall range with two crosswings. The structure is timber-framed, encased, and partly underbuilt in early 19th century red brick, topped with a concrete plaintiled roof.

There is an axial chimney, which has been rebuilt in early 19th century red brick, featuring a square panel at the base adorned with saltire patterned terracotta tiles and three octagonal shafts. To the right, there is a 17th century external chimney made of red brick, with a similar rebuilt upper section from the 19th century that has two shafts. The windows are early 19th century small-pane sashes with cambered heads and small panes.

The farmhouse has a six-panelled door located at the cross-entry position, and a 19th century gabled porch supported by posts with latticework infill. The hall range retains its mid 16th century core, characterized by a multiple-roll moulded binding beam and roll-moulded joists. The right-hand crosswing was added in the 17th century, and all roofs have been rebuilt in a clasped purlin form, while the left-hand wing may also have a 16th century core. Additionally, there is a lower service wing at the rear left, which dates from the 16th or 17th century and has undergone significant remodelling in the 19th century.
