Description
The Rookery is a farmhouse that dates back to the 17th century, with an earlier range on the right side. It is two storeys tall and features a main range designed with a two-cell lobby-entrance plan. The building is timber-framed and plastered, with some 18th and 19th century herringbone pargetting. The roof is plaintiled, and there is an 18th century parapet gable made of red brick, which is now internal on the right side. The farmhouse has a central 17th century chimney made of red brick, along with another 18th century chimney at the gable, which was rebuilt in the mid-20th century. The windows are mid-19th century sashes with large panes. There is a mid-19th century gabled entrance porch with a half-glazed panelled door and panelled reveals. The range to the right was originally one and a half storeys but had its walls raised in the 19th century, and a lower-pitched pantiled roof was added. Attached to the left along the street is a single-storey 19th century range that used to be a butcher's shop, constructed of flint and painted brick with plastered end walls and a pantiled roof. It features a mid-19th century shop window with a cornice. To the right of the facade, there is a lean-to extension from the 19th century made of painted brick.
