Description
This barn, located about 25 meters southeast of Ivy Lodge Farmhouse, dates from the early to mid 17th century and was extended in the early 18th century. It features a timber frame that is weatherboarded, with some areas rendered and others covered in corrugated sheet cladding. The roof is steeply pitched and made of corrugated asbestos. The barn consists of three bays, with an additional two-bay midstrey. The central bay is open to the yard, while the midstrey is located opposite and includes a loft opening at the rear, along with a lean-to on the left side of the midstrey.
Inside, the barn has full-height studding with cranked braces in the walling. The left end wall has been rebuilt, and it features jowled posts with cranked arched braces supporting the tie beams, collars, and halved principals that clasp the purlins. Cranked windbraces are also present. The midstrey includes through tension bracing, an inserted floor, staggered tenoned purlins, and cambered collars.
