Description
This is a barn located immediately south of Ivy House Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The barn is timber-framed, although the walls were largely rebuilt in brick during the 18th century. It has a plain tile roof with gabled ends and consists of three bays, featuring a central threshing bay. The north cart entrance has been blocked off, likely in the late 19th century. Both the north and south sides have ventilation holes created by leaving out some headers. The wall posts are exposed on either side of the central bay, which is also blocked in brick on the north side. A 20th-century wooden lean-to shelter obscures the south elevation. The timber framing of the roof structure is visible in the gable ends. Inside, the barn has a three-bay roof with queen struts and diminished principals that cross at the apex for a diagonal ridgepiece. The purlins are trenched, with thin replacement wind-braces, and there are curved braces under the tie beams. The common rafters are intact.
