Description
The stable range, located 30 meters west of Winston Hall, has a core that dates back to the 16th century, with most of the alterations occurring in the 19th century. It consists of about seven bays and features a timber frame that is weatherboarded, with much of the 18th and 19th-century boarding having beaded edges. The roof is pantiled and includes two 19th-century monopitched dormers that have boarded hayloft doors. There are five sets of boarded stable doors.
At the right end of the building, there is a crownpost roof from the mid or late 16th century, which has three bays, with the posts being chamfered and supported by two-way plank braces. The left end features an altered couple-rafter roof, with significant rebuilding and clasped purlins in the central bays, ranging from the 17th to the 19th century. Some heavy studwork from the 16th century is present, but the partitioning and loft flooring are all from the 19th century. Additionally, to the left, there is a 19th-century coach-house constructed of tarred red brick.
