Description
The barn and dairy, located corner-to-corner immediately north-west of Boundary Farmhouse, date from the mid-16th century. The barn consists of four bays, while the two-bay dairy may have originally served as a stable with living quarters above until the 17th century. The structure is timber-framed, with the barn covered in weatherboarding and the dairy primarily plastered, featuring underbuilding in 19th-century red brick that is partly painted. The roof is made of concrete pantiles, which were once plain tiles. The dairy includes some slatted windows. The barn showcases good 16th-century framing, with arch-braced close-studding and evidence of diamond-mullioned windows in the loft above the dairy. It also has unmoulded first-floor joists and a wind-braced clasped-purlin roof, which has been renewed over the barn. A 19th-century timber-framed porch is located on the west side. There have been extensions and an inserted upper floor added in the 20th century. Attached to the north-east corner is a low 17th-century garden wall that extends approximately 30 meters along the road frontage to the east; it is made of red brick with half-round on-edge copings.
