Description
The Winston War Memorial is a war memorial erected in 1923, following the First World War, with an additional inscription added after the Second World War. It is made from Cornish granite and limestone.
The memorial is located beside the main entrance to the churchyard of the Church of St Andrew. It features a cross fleury set on a tapering shaft, a plinth, and a two-stepped base. The cross is adorned with the intertwined letters of the Christogram ‘IHS’ at its center. The memorial stands approximately 2.1 meters high, constructed primarily from Cornish granite, with the lower step made of limestone.
The north-west face of the plinth is inscribed in leaded lettering with the words: "IN MEMORY OF/ (FIVE NAMES)/ KILLED IN ACTION. DURING/ THE WAR 1914 – 1918." Additionally, there is an inscription on the south-west face of the plinth that reads: "1939 – 1945/ (TWO NAMES)."
