Description
Spring Cottage consists of two houses dating from the 17th century, built in two phases. The buildings are timber framed and rendered, topped with a thatched roof. They are arranged in two cells and have one and a half storeys. The houses feature various casement windows, mostly from the 19th century. No. 39 has a standard mid-20th century window on the ground floor and one gabled dormer, while No. 37 has a plank door and No. 39 has a semi-glazed four-panel door. There is a small 19th-century pantiled addition on the right, part of No. 39. An internal stack has a 19th-century red brick shaft.
Inside, No. 37 is divided into two bays with irregular studding that is quite widely spaced and plain joists set flat. It has a side purlin roof. No. 39, a mid-17th-century addition, features plain studding and joists with a common rafter roof. There is an open fireplace on the ground floor, with a chimney made of stud and plaster, which is a rare survival.
