Description
The Old Doctor's House is a house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, likely built in several phases, with significant alterations made in the late 18th and 19th centuries. It features a large H-shaped plan with flanking cross-wings and an additional short section at the rear parallel to the central range. The house is timber framed and plastered, topped with a roof of concrete pantiles. It has a wooden modillion eaves cornice, and the wings are adorned with plain bargeboards and spike finials. The building is two storeys high with attics, and it has sash windows with glazing bars; the upper floor windows have six panes each, while the ground floor features four tripartite windows. All windows are fitted with hoodmoulds. The ground floor, positioned forward between the wings, includes a two-storey splayed porch. The mid-20th century replacement doorcase has fluted pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a pedimented dentil cornice, leading to a six-panel door. There are two stacks with heavy plain white brick shafts. Inside, one ground floor room retains a 17th-century ceiling with a decorative band of vine foliage around the border.
