Description
Nos 2 to 6 on Bolton Lane are a group of buildings dating from the 18th century. The front is made of red brick, likely added to an earlier structure. At the rear, there is a timber-framed and plastered wing on the north end that extends to the east, showcasing exposed timber framing. The buildings are two storeys high with attics and feature a four-window range, including some double-hung sash windows with glazing bars in flush cased frames. There is one 20th-century three-light casement window on the first storey, and the ground storey includes a 20th-century shop window.
There are four doorways, each with pedimented wooden doorcases; one has reeded pilasters, another has plain pilasters, and two feature moulded architraves. A raised brick band runs between the storeys, and the roofs are covered with slate, featuring two gabled dormers.
Nos 2 to 6 form a group with Nos 10, 12, 26 to 30 (even), Nos 21 and 23, and St Margaret's Church on St Margaret's Green.
