Description
The former stables, located immediately north of Dennington Place, date back to the 16th century and are currently used for housing livestock and storage. The building has an L-shaped plan and is constructed with a timber frame, featuring sections with exposed timbering and brick nogging, as well as areas that are weatherboarded. The roof is pantiled, and the original brick nogging displays a herringbone pattern. The structure is two storeys high and has various later windows and doors. Attached to the west side, at the angle of the two ranges, is a 20th-century open lean-to extension. The timber frame is of good quality, with very little re-used material. The original roof was replaced in the late 18th or 19th century. Historical records from a deed of 1566 describe it as "Two stables without the mote with the garners and romes over the same."
