Description
Dennington Place is a house that dates largely from the 17th century, with one cross-wall likely being medieval. It has a three-cell plan and a later extension to the north, creating a single long range; a cross wing to the south was demolished around 1950. The building is timber framed, featuring exposed timbering and brick nogging, primarily arranged in a herringbone pattern, and has a plain tiled roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic. Some original windows have square mullions, while other mid-20th century windows match this style. The entry features a cross passage with an original four-centre arched doorway and a later six-panel fielded door, along with a boarded door on the right side. There is one gabled dormer and an internal stack as well as a gable end stack on the left side. Inside, the house displays exposed timbering, original first-floor brick newel stairs with wooden treads, some original doors, and two original arched doorheads. A significant amount of the timber framing has been reused, likely sourced from the main house on the adjacent moated site, which was demolished in the late 17th century.
