Description
Charnwood is a house dating from the late 16th century. It has two storeys and attics, featuring a two-cell internal-chimney layout and five bays. The structure is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a 20th-century plain-tiled roof. The internal stack boasts a large red brick shaft with projecting headers and four ornate chimney pots. The house includes various 20th-century casement windows and one large Edwardian bay with a tented roof, along with two gabled dormers and an enclosed 20th-century porch.
Inside, the timber frame is largely exposed, with ground floor ceilings showcasing ogee stops on the main beams and unchamfered joists set flat. There are two open fireplaces with plain timber lintels. The roof consists of five bays that align with the wall bays, featuring one row of butt purlins and clasped purlins above, with the main components marked for assembly. A 1½ storey section to the north of the main house has been extensively modernised and is not included in the listing.
