Description
Highfield is a house that dates from the 16th century and was partially rebuilt in the 20th century. The original structure features a cross-wing that is positioned at right angles to the road and has a two-cell end-chimney plan. The house has two storeys and attics, constructed with timber framing and rendered, topped with clay pantiles. An external chimney stack made of old red brick has two diagonally set square shafts and has been rebuilt.
The property includes two-light and three-light casement windows, some of which are original. Inside, the exposed timbers are plain with good studding, although an original partition between two ground floor rooms has been moved. On the upper floor, there are very heavy reversed braces at the ends of the long walls and one blocked mullion window. The roof bays align with the wall bays and feature clasped side purlins, diminished principals, and remnants of windbraces. The main range, which is a 20th-century rebuilding in a traditional style, is not included in the listing.
