Description

Sluice Cottage is a house located in Ramsholt, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is timber framed, featuring clapboarding and stucco render that has been colourwashed, topped with a plain tiled roof. The cottage is a single storey with an attic and has a two-cell baffle-entry plan with an additional cell.

On the entrance front, the 18th-century section is on the right and includes a half-glazed 19th-century doorway to the left and a two-light casement window to the right. The 17th-century section on the left has a brick plinth, with clapboarding on the ground floor and stucco on the first floor, which is grooved to resemble ashlar. There is a doorway to the left of centre, flanked by two 19th-century casement windows. The first floor features three 19th-century gabled dormer windows, and there is a stack at the ridge, positioned left of centre. To the far left, there is a lean-to, likely from the 19th or 20th century, with a two-light casement window at ground floor level.

At the rear, there is a projecting outshut to the left with a lean-to roof and a two-light casement window, and to the far right, a three-light casement window. The attic contains three two-light gabled dormer windows.

Inside, the cottage features close-studding, chamfered ceiling beams, and jowled wall posts in the ground and first floor rooms.
