Description

Rose Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with minor alterations in the 19th century. It is built of colourwashed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins, and has a steeply pitched pantile roof with stone gable and axial ridge stacks. The original entrance was a baffle entry. The cottage follows a three-unit plan and has a single storey with attic space. The front has a half-glazed door located centrally, with a two-light casement window to the left, and a two-light, glazing bar casement window to the right; all are topped with timber lintels. Three two-light dormers with rendered cheeks are visible on the first floor. Inside, the cottage retains chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, an angled corner fireplace, two 17th-century wide planked doors, and original hinges.
