Description
House. Dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions in the mid-18th century, the 19th century, and the 20th century. Built of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, the roof is covered with Collyweston and Welsh slate, featuring stone coped gables and a roll moulded ridge. A central square ashlar stack rises from the ridge, with a cornice and four moulded shafts. Originally an L-shaped building, an 18th-century wing was added to the front. The two-story, attic house has a single-bay gabled 17th-century range on the south side, featuring single three-light casement windows under timber lintels to the ground and first floors, and a single garret light. The 18th-century wing, with a Welsh slate roof, incorporates a 19th-century half-glazed door concealed behind a timber porch with a shaped lead hood. To the left of the door are single three-light casement windows to each floor. The north gable has single margin lights to the ground and first floors, each with a moulded stone architrave. The interior retains a 17th-century fireplace in a rear storage area, with a moulded bressummer incorporating jewel stops. Above this is an 18th-century bolection moulded fireplace surround with a Bath grate inset.
