Description

The Old Smithy is a 17th-century house with an attached smithy, now used as accommodation. It is located on Eyke Road in Campsey Ash. Originally named Smithy Cottage and located on Marlesford Road, the building is timber framed and plastered, featuring a hipped roof covered in plain tiles. The smithy section is weatherboarded with a pantiled roof. The house is two storeys high with an attic. It has a possible lobby entrance and a three-window front with 19th-century casement windows incorporating metal glazing bars. One window has boarded shutters, and a modern boarded door is present. A red brick stack rises from the ridge of the roof. The interior reveals the timber frame, with stop-chamfered main beams and run-out stops.
