Description
Whitehall and Guardship is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It was built in the early 19th century and underwent alterations later in the 19th century. The rear gable wall has been rebuilt, and further modifications were made in the late 20th century. The exterior features coursed pebbles with brick dressings, which are whitewashed, and the roof is covered with black-glazed pantiles, including two rebuilt ridge stacks.
The front of the building is a single-storey, three-bay design, with the outer bays acting as flanking screen walls to the gabled central bay. Beneath the deep gable eaves, there is a plank door with an overlight to the right of a 12/8 unhorned sash window that has a two-centred arched head. The windows in the flanking bays are 6/6 unhorned sashes. The flanking bays are topped with plain parapets that have ball and pedestal finials at the outer ends, and a similar finial is located at the gable apex. All windows are fitted with louvred shutters.
On the right side of the building, there is a central half-glazed door flanked by one 6/6 horned sash window on each side. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the building served as a coastguard station.
