Description
No 6 Fairfield Road is a house that dates from the late 16th century and 17th century, with later additions. It has a complex form, consisting of part two storeys and attics, and part two storeys. The structure is timber-framed and rendered, topped with plain tiled roofs. The front range features two bays and has an external red brick chimney stack on the front wall, which has stepped sides and a plain shaft. Next to the stack is a small 18th-century gabled projection with a small-paned fixed window.
A rear wing shows signs that its roof has been raised, and along the former gable end, there is a weather-worn tie beam with embattled ornament. Additionally, there is a 1½-storey 18th-century range that is now set at right angles to this gable wall, featuring a chimney stack in between. Some plain timbering is exposed throughout the house, and the large open fireplaces retain their original bricks and mortar. The house contains various casement windows and doors. The middle range, where the roof has been raised, is likely the oldest part of the building.
