Description

Gothic Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid 16th century, with significant alterations made in the 18th century. The right-hand wing and the Gothic-style facade were added in the early 19th century. The building is timber framed and plastered, with some remnants of old plaster panels featuring ropework infilling, and it has a plaintiled roof.

The farmhouse has two storeys and consists of a main range with two hipped-roofed wings that are set forward. On the left side of the main range, there is one window, while each wing has one window, and the recessed center has two windows. These windows are three-light mullion and transom casements with pointed arches and timber hoodmoulds. The central doorway features a six-panel raised and fielded door, a blind rectangular fanlight with three blank arches, and a hoodmould above.

The right-hand return front includes three windows in a similar style and a doorway with a glazed six-panel door and a fanlight that has two pointed-arch lights. At the rear, two mid-16th century windows with moulded mullions have been uncovered. Inside, there is a heavy internal stack in the main range along with two additional internal stacks. The left end of the main range showcases good exposed framing, and the former dairy area features a roll-moulded main beam and cornice, two arched doorways, and an early 19th-century hinged boarded shutter on the slatted front window. Moulded beams are present over both ground floor fireplaces at this end of the house.
