Description
Heveningham High House is a house dating from the 16th century, featuring an L-shaped plan with a small lower addition to the north. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, and includes various casement windows, some of which have 20th-century square leaded glass. On the north side of the main range, there is a 20th-century lean-to porch that has a plank door. The main range features a heavy square internal stack, while there is an external stack on the gable end of the south wing. The northern addition includes two original mullioned windows at first floor level. The house was once known as The Barracks, a name that is locally associated with its use by Cromwell.
