Description

Poplar's Farmhouse is an early 17th-century north wing with a probable 18th-century addition to the southwest, forming an L-shaped plan. The farmhouse is timber framed and plastered, with some colourwashed brick casing and a red brick gable end to the later wing. The roof is clad in corrugated iron sheeting. It is two storeys high, with an attic to the earlier wing. The older range has a three-cell form. Windows are scattered and mostly comprise 19th and 20th-century casements. A mid-20th-century porch and boarded door are located at the angle where the two ranges meet. The gable ends have scalloped bargeboards. The interior has been altered, particularly on the ground floor, but the earlier part retains some exposed framing on the first floor. There is one internal stack in each wing. This building possesses group value from its contribution to the character of the area.
